On September 11th 2001, Americans watched in horror as hijacked airplanes crashed into the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington, and into a filed in Somerset County Pennsylvania. As a result, the government closed all US airspace, ordering planes to land at the nearest airport, included Harrisburg International. What happens when community focused organizations come together to support young scholars beginning a new school year? While serving a prison sentence in his twenties, Krimes used art to process his experiences and reclaim his humanity. What began as a survival tool behind bars has grown into a career that has taken his work from makeshift materials in prison to major museum walls across the country. Krimes’ art and advocacy challenge audiences to think deeply about incarceration, identity, and redemption, showing how creativity can serve as a force for healing and social change.
